Design Concept
Our Town like many of the plays that we create in the theatre is about us. Written by Thornton Wilder is a piece of work that encourages the audience to remember they are in a play and find meaning applicable to their own life.
The following concepts and ideas are some of my thoughts on what Out Town conveys to the viewer. I will use sound in specific and key moments to help emphasize these concepts.
Life is hard we all eventually die.
We need to embrace the beauty of life.
This is the story of humanity which will always continue.
Nothing is permanent.
Love changes us.
I will employ a dynamic, thick, chaotic piece of orchestral music in order to contrast the softer, more elegant music that will provide clarity in a world of emotion and unknown to the protagonist.
Sound Samples
Music

This sample track served as pre-show music. It's dynamic range and fast tempo is representative of the world we live in before the new status quo.
This sample track served as intermission music. It's soft and thin sound was intentionally chosen to help the audience prepare to move into the final act of the play.
This was the Narrator's introductory cue. It preceeded the narrator when the Narrator was interrupting the "story".
